Disco Dolphins and Cherries
One of the many benefits of designing custom scenic elements is that we never work on the same thing twice. So, when we were asked to create tourable, rotating, mirror-tiled dolphins, we eagerly dove into the project. During the 2024 Disco Boy Tour we added two disco cherry pairs to the mix.

Process Details
Standing at seven feet tall, the Disco Dolphins are covered in mirror tile, split into manageable pieces for easy travel, and bring endless joy to everyone who dances with them. The dolphins were hand-carved from EPS foam using photo references and then covered in foil to protect the foam from the adhesive used to attach the mirrors. An aluminum skeleton was installed into the foam to allow the pieces to be split for transport in flight cases. Once the skeleton and body were complete, the lengthy process of mirror tiling the entire surface began. When assembled, the dolphins sit on a turntable that slowly rotates them throughout the show.
The two cherries entered the scene in 2024, fit with an internal aluminum frame that supports a 3D print structure shaped as the fruit. From there, every surface was covered in mirror tiles and colored accordingly.
